Sebart Edge 540 S 50 Yellow inc Carbon Landing gear

I received my new Sebart Edge and had it ready to fly after a few leisurely evenings of enjoyable assembly. You couldn't call this a build as it is mostly all done for you. The new Edge is typical Sebart quality but with a few very welcome upgrades. This new model has a lovely one piece, profiled carbon undercarriage and has ball links all round on the control surfaces. A big bonus with this Edge is that it takes only 4 standard sized servos. I fitted some Turnigy low profile servos in mine to keep it light and compact. Everything went together fairly easily. I elected to fit rebated Kavan hinges on my model as I prefer them to Mylar hinges. I tend to find that over a long time I can split Mylar hinges. Things that were a bit of a challenge.....the linkage rods and ball links are great but they are mega tight and need to be screwed in almost all the way on the threaded sections to get to the correct sizes. No way could this be done by your fingers. A proper ball link driver and pair of pliers would make it easier. I used two different adjustable spanners to grip the ball links.
Also...don't use cyano on the tailplane...it fogs the covering. ..better to use some 15 min. Epoxy very sparingly and wipe of any excess with meths. The tailplane opening in the fuz was level when the one piece stab was put in, but there was a few mm of a gap at the leading edge which I later filled with a little bead of epoxy to tidy it up a bit. The instructions show a piece to go in behind the fitted tail on the fuz, but my kit did not have any such part, it isn't needed for anything other than aesthetic value anyway. The other thing I had to do was to fit the ESC at a 45 degree angle below the motor box rather than fit it flat with tie wraps. This was for two reasons....to get the correct CG, you need to have the battery further forward where the tie wraps would be in the way, and also, at the angle, the ESC catches the air / wind better from the round air scoop on the cowl front.
The cowl fits easily as did the motor and all the gear. There is a lovely pre balanced , metal backplate spinner. It all looks great once fitted.
Assembly of the model at the field will be a breeze with only two Allen bolts to hold the wings on. Everything is easily accessible and the canopy goes on with two thumb screws.
The thin wing section will give this model great all round performance even is a stiff wind and I am looking forward to some good 3D performance. The instructions are good with clear information about initial settings including rudder to elevator and rudder to aileron mixing. I will fine tune mine once I've flown it. I had a Sebart Katana 50 a few years back that I loved. This one looks like a step on again and I can't wait to see what if flies like.
